Never one to jump on the latest fad, I was determined that I wasn’t going to get sucked into tons of unnecessary gimmicks just because I was a soon to be new parent. However, I have to admit, there were a few products I originally thought were totally ridiculous but I soon came to love and couldn’t live with out. These are my picks for the top 10 best baby products ever!
Whether you are an expecting mama, a mama with little ones, or a friend trying to decide on a shower or Christmas gift for a new or expecting mama, let this list be your guide.

1. The Boppy Pillow
This thing is essential! I wrapped it around me and used it for support when I was breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or just holding the baby. I would also sit my daughter in it and it supported her perfectly during the early months.
2. Wipes Warmer
A wipes warmer? Really? Oh yes! This is not the ridiculous luxury it sounds like, especially when your baby is born in the middle of winter and her room is a little chilly (thus the wipes are very cold) and she has woken up for the millionth time during the night. Trust me, you want to get that diaper changed as quickly as possible and get that baby back to sleep. There’s nothing like a chilly wipe to REALLY wake a baby up.
3. Dr. Brown’s Bottles
Let me just tell you the type of bottle DOES matter! One day, for some reason, I grabbed a different type of bottle that came with my breast pump. Right after feeding her, my daughter curled up in a ball, fussy and crying with gas and belly pain. That was the last time we used any other bottle. I’ve since talked to other parents who experienced similar results with other bottles.
4. Boogies Wipes
No way was I buying into this one! A baby wipe, my spit on a tissue (yes, I admit I did it!), anything would work right? Then I tried a free sample and I was sold! They smell good and they literally dissolve any dried up gunk on your child’s nose. And, somehow, maybe because of their pleasant smell, kids don’t try to squirm away when you use them. I SWEAR.
5. Hypoallergenic Formula
Almost $30 for a can of formula that lasts only about three days? Yeah right! For over three months, we tried every formula under the sun, reflux medication, probiotics, cranialsacral therapy, flower essences, homeopathy, and everything else you can think of to get a fussy baby to stop crying but nothing helped.
The formula worked immediately. It was so worth it. (Tip: Check Ebay and Craigslist for deals. Some health insurances pay for it so some people are lucky enough to get it by the case. They often have a stock pile they are looking to get rid of once their baby transitions to solid food. We conducted more “deals” in the parking lot of the local Burger King than you can imagine!)
6. Sound Machine
This worked sort of like Pavlov’s dog experiment. I turned it on every night when my daughter had her last bottle. Then I put her in her crib and she would babble to herself until she fell asleep. It also helped drown out any background noise that might wake her up. A bonus is that it is small and super easy to take with you when you are traveling. It made putting her to bed in a strange place a thousand times easier!
7. Vick’s Starry Night Humidifier
It moisturizes the air, shines stars on the ceiling to keep baby entertained if they wake up, and has a spot to place a Vicks scented vaporizing pad. What more could you want?
8. Nighttime Orajel
Yes, there is a difference between regular Orajel and Nighttime Orajel. It really does last longer. Not much more to say about this! Or, you could also try Earthley’s Teeth Tamer if you want a natural remedy. (Earthley also has lots of other all natural remedies for babies. Be sure to check them out, shipping is free with orders $40 or more.)
9. Wee Sing
What to do all day with a little baby who can’t talk? Fingerplays! Wee Sing comes with a CD of songs along with a little booklet showing instructions of how to move your fingers. It brought back forgotten memories of my grandmother doing these with me. I consider fingerplays a lost art. I am so grateful to these authors for preserving this form of entertainment!
10. Mini toilet seat
Not technically a “baby” product but so amazing it’s still worth mentioning. You’ll need a potty seat eventually. This is way better than those clunky things that sit on top of the toilet. It attaches right to your regular toilet seat. A plumber was at my house to do some repairs and he was amazed when he saw this. He said in all of his years working on bathrooms he had never seen one of these. He thought it was genius and so do I!
Bonus Idea: Peaceful Pauses Card Deck
These make the perfect shower gift or present for a new mom! Motherhood can be hard, especially at first. It can feel like life changes overnight. Trying to tackle breastfeeding and crying babies, while healing from childbirth, not to mention dealing with fluctuating hormones, is overwhelming. I know, because for months I walked around like a sleep deprived zombie after my daughter was born. I felt so alone.
Moms need a gentle hand to walk them through the times when everything feels like one big blur of feeding, changing diapers, and sleepless nights. They need a friend to help them weave self care and calm into their days. That’s why I’ve created the Peaceful Pauses deck of cards. There are thirty cards, one for each day of the month.
These cards contain tangible ideas to help make the postpartum period more calm and peaceful for yourself. They are simple yet comforting ideas to guide you through your days.
