I’m totally loving this sugar scrub! It’s my favorite self care indulgence right now. It is super simple to make (requires only two ingredients) and it smells amazing. All you need is sugar and coconut oil, foods you likely already have in your kitchen cupboard. I definitely recommend using unrefined oil for its natural coconut scent.
This is the one time you don’t need to feel guilty about using sugar! Sugar is a wonderful exfoliant for your skin. And, like honey, sugar draws moisture from the air into your skin. It unclogs pores, removes dead skin cells, and increases circulation and blood flow. The result is a healthier, glowing complexion.
The yummy smell of coconut, along with its ability to leave your skin smooth and supple, make this the perfect summertime body scrub. Use it during a candlelight shower or your shower meditation ritual and you’re in for a sensory delight!
I don’t really measure out the proportions anymore, I just slowly add sugar to the coconut oil until the consistency seems right. But, for those of you who would like a recipe, here are some basic measurements for the sugar scrub:
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, unrefined
- 1 cup sugar, white or brown (Brown is less gritty and would be better for a scrub for the face.)
- dried or fresh flower petals (optional)
- vanilla extract (optional)
Mix the coconut oil and sugar together in a large bowl. Stir in any desired flower petals (roses or lavender are nice choices.) Add 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix. Store in an airtight container. (Package it in a jar decorated with a beautiful ribbon and you’ve also got a great last minute gift idea!)
Looking for a quick, cheap, and simple mood lifter? Want a glowing summer complexion? For once, give yourself permission to enjoy as much sugar as you want and try this scrub!
